5 Ways to Pay yourself in Life

Estimated read time 5 min read

You probably work hard in your private and professional life to get through the day, weeks, months, quarters and years. Once in a while you deserve time off to just treat yourself over the number of time periods that are available to you. It is so easy to get carried away with deadlines, and all that needs to happen such that you end up losing out on what life is all about. Life is about you smiling and enjoying yourself. When you do not find time to just enjoy yourself you will fall sick, be depressant, lack enough exercise and just overally be stressed.

In this article I have categorized how you can pay yourself over time from time to time. There are of course more ideas that you can implement which will make you successful.

Day Payments

At the end of the day after working so hard you deserve a reward. It does not have to be a big thing or an expensive thing, it just has to be something that you enjoy. I like taking coffee once in a while with a carrot cake, because it makes sence to me. Other times, I will look for a movie to watch that I enjoy or just spend time with my favourite people in the world.  Because your life is on a budget you cannot really afford to do extravagant things on a daily basis, so find those little things that will make you happy. It could be just sitting and listening to your old favourite songs, drawing something you love, and as my friend likes to do, writing a poem that means something. Your daily payments are awesome in that they reduce the tension of the day and let you breathe; reminding you that there is life and that you are alive.

Weekly Payments

After a strange week or an awesome week you need to detox and to celebrate another week of achievement. Making it this far deserves a celebration, no mater what the circumstances are in life do something that means something to you. You could get your hair done, go watch a game over the weekend, go out of town, go horse or elephant riding, take a walk outside the city with a few zebras, whatever it is that you decide to do, let it mean something to you. Your weekly payment could also be going for theater week, spending a bit on a few clothes, visiting some relatives, taking a long drive, as noted before, make it count.

Monthly payment

You have spent 30 days working hard, striving and working towards your goals, why not get yourself something significant. If you are a church goer we know you will tithe 10% to the church , why not also set aside 10% towards you as well. Invest in yourself, at the end of the month, you must be saving towards something that matters you. End-of-month paying yourself is not about spending, but more about investment. There are 12 months in a year, the more you save on the side the better your yearly payment will be.

Quarterly payment

If your montly payment was significant you might just be able to pay yourself handsomely at the end of the quarter, you could buy a new asset, go on holiday or simply celebrate in one way or the other that means something to you. Companies pay themselves with quarterly reports and assess how far they are going in terms of reaching some level of targets. Your life deserves a payment so don’t let the quarter go to waste.

Yearly Payment

Here is the secret about how your payments are structured. Your daily and weekly paymets are the encouragement you need to stay mentally and physically healthy, hence you pay yourself with a a few tokens of appreciation daily to ensure that you remain healthy enough. Your monthly and quarterly payments are to ensure that you are regularly assessing how you are doing. The more you save the faster you will get to your real target. Your yearly targets are those things which  when you look at them you are proud you did not waste your time. Now your year does not need to follow January to December, your year could give you a reward in September because that is when your year ends. You could buy a house, stand, finish a degree, go on a safari trip in Kenya, start a company, whatever it is will encourage you to be successful.

The only question I have for you is “Are you paying yourself”. Don’t get caught up in the demands of the world such that you put your life on hold. While your job is important, your personal life is more important, strive to pay yourself daily and be as healthy as you can be. Set real targets of payments and move towards those with tenacity.
